Your weekly getaway
to the world of
Tropical Americana
Your Host: Don Drzal
Huntley Community Radio
Seen here with my better half, I'm just a Tropical Americana-lovin', Gulf coast dreamin', typical suburban father of three, learning the radio game and having a great time sharing my favorite music with anyone who'll listen.

Living in the Chicago area all my life, it's just a matter of time before I join the happy folk living in the warmer climates and enjoying the weather for more than just 5 months out of each year.

I was introduced to TropRock and Tropical Americana music with the Jim Hoehn compilation, Thongs In The Key Of Life, Vol 1, and I've been hooked ever since. A Parrothead since the 80's, I miss catching Jimmy at the ol' Poplar Creek Music Theater here in the NW suburbs, where I was only 2 stoplights away.

Palm Trees and Poets was started on a dare. I dared myself to get more involved in the local community radio: Huntley Community Radio, where, with the help of my good friend, Bill Geheren, I dabbled in the evening news and even did a few high school football games - as a sideline reporter, as a play-by-play guy, and even 1 game as a statistician (I'm not sure I'll do that again). I knew the folks at the radio station wanted more content, and the TropRock world was something new for many of these folks.

One thing led to another, I reached out to Harry at RadioA1A. He was EXTREMELY supportive and happy to carry the show. And who knows what will happen next.

With Palm Trees and Poets, I'm getting to meet and talk with great musicians and songwriters. And I'm looking to enhance the TropRock life through the music, the interviews, and the culinary experiences.

You see, my better half, TIna, is also an award-winning chef. She will be contributing recipes, assorted culinary ideas, and perhaps a beverage idea to Palm Trees and Poets. So listen in and check back, often to this website.

And remember, we're all here 'cuz we ain't all there!
